Universiti Malaya and the Malaysian Vaccines and Pharmaceuticals Sdn. Bhd. (MVP) are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement to collaborate on the development and research of vaccines for veterinary diseases.

Universiti Malaya, through its Tropical Infectious Diseases Research and Education Center (TIDREC), a Ministry of Education, Higher Institution Center of Excellence (HICoE), has expertise in tropical infectious diseases and in the development of vaccines.

The Malaysian Vaccines and Pharmaceuticals Sdn. Bhd., on the other part, is the sole Malaysia based veterinary vaccine manufacturer that develops and produces vaccines for animal health. The company has had remarkable success in the manufacturing and marketing of veterinary vaccines.

The signing of the agreement marks UM's first partnership with the industry in vaccine research development. Universiti Malaya, using its vast vaccine research knowledge and laboratory infrastructure resources will augment MVP capability in the development of new vaccines against emerging vector-borne animal diseases, especially those that have the potential to impact on the region’s economic development.
